Assignment Title: Inquiry-Based Lesson Plan Development and Peer Feedback

Objective: To develop an inquiry-based STEM lesson plan and provide constructive peer feedback to enhance collaborative learning and improve instructional design skills.

Description: In this assignment, you will create an inquiry-based lesson plan that encourages students to ask questions, explore, and discover STEM concepts. You will then review and provide feedback on a peer's lesson plan to foster a collaborative learning environment.

Steps and Requirements:

  1. Read and Reflect:

    • Reading: Review the article "The Power of Inquiry-Based Learning in STEM" 
    • Reflection: Write a brief (200-300 words) reflection on how inquiry-based learning can benefit STEM education. 
  2. Develop an Inquiry-Based Lesson Plan:

    • Lesson Plan Components:

      • Topic: Choose a relevant STEM topic.
      • Grade Level: Specify the grade level you are targeting.
      • Objectives: Define 2-3 learning objectives.
      • Materials: List necessary materials and resources.
      • Inquiry Question: Develop a central inquiry question that guides the lesson.
      • Activities: Outline a series of activities that lead students to explore the inquiry question. Include opportunities for hands-on exploration, data collection, and analysis.
      • Assessment: Describe formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate student understanding.
      • Differentiation: Include strategies to support diverse learners.
    • Format: Use the provided lesson plan template to structure your lesson plan.

  3. Upload Your Lesson Plan:

    • Submit your completed lesson plan as a PDF or Word document 
  4. Peer Review:

    • After submission, you will be assigned a peer's lesson plan to review.
    • Review Criteria: Use the provided rubric to assess the lesson plan, focusing on clarity, coherence, engagement, and alignment with inquiry-based learning principles.
    • Feedback: Write a constructive review (150-200 words) highlighting strengths and offering suggestions for improvement.
    • Submission: On or before 20th June 2024.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Reflection:
    • Insightfulness and depth of reflection on inquiry-based learning (10%).
  • Lesson Plan:
    • Clarity and coherence of the lesson plan (20%).
    • Integration of inquiry-based learning principles (20%).
    • Engagement and effectiveness of activities (20%).
    • Quality of assessments and differentiation strategies (10%).
  • Peer Review:
    • Constructiveness and helpfulness of feedback provided (20%).
